Kombatan is the result of more than 30 years of GM Ernesto Amador Presas Sr.'s research. Kombatan consists of Doble baston, Solo baston, Espada y daga, tres puntas, dos puntas, daga sa daga, dulo dulo and Mano mano. In solo baston the curriculum consists of Classical arnis (Major styles of Ocho ocho, Hirada Batanguena, Force to force abanico doblada, Palis palis doblete, Sungkiti tutsada o tuslok and minor styles of rompida, banda y banda)and Modern arnis (Catching/grabbing or sunggab, Disarming techniques or agaw baston, Locking or trankada, Takedowns/throwing or hagis, andReleasing/Police techniques or weapon retention or pagkalas sa pagagaw ng baston.) Kombatan is learned or absorbed through interaction or two man drills. First with a feeding and defending type drill as a basic or Bigay tama. Next is Palit-palit or give and take drill. Then it is Freestyle sparring or tapi tapi. All drills are first patterned then done at random. This will instill all applications of techniques the student has learned. Once the student becomes proficient in Kombatan the practioner or arnisador is expected to personalize the system to suit his own body type.
