Boxing
From MartialTalk Online Martial Arts Encyclopedia Project
Boxing is a western Martial Art that currently uses the Marquis of Queensbury rules, which allow competitors to punch, but not kick, elbow, headbutt or grapple. Boxing is currently a big money sport with top prize fighters making millions per fight.
In older forms of boxing, competitors were bare knuckled and were allowed to clinch and throw their opponents. Rounds ended when one fighter fell; the match ended when one of the fighters was unable to return for the next round, as opposed to the fixed number of rounds used in modern boxing. This occasionally led to some very long fights.
